So I haven't blogged in forever. It has been way too easy to post tons of pictures on Facebook instead of here where we have used 98% of our alotted memory but there have been SO many times that I wanted to be able to write exactly what was going on in our little world. I need to save the vacation blogs to our computer so I can delete them and add pictures here again. Anyway, yesterday wasn't really all that awful but it's one of those days where it was one thing after another.
First off, I didn't sleep well. While physically I feel pretty stinking good for being 39 weeks pregnant, I can't sleep for anything. I have a hard time going to sleep and then wake up after a few hours and can't go back to sleep. Thankfully both kids still take naps and I can get some sleep then. Lincoln has had parties in his crib for whatever reason around 3-5 AM for the past 5 months or so. Some days he does and other days he doesn't but it happens several times a week. He'll meow like a cat or say "ooh".... a lot.... and for two hours. Not good for a Momma trying to get some sleep on the couch! Well, yesterday took the cake. He thrashed around and cried which worried me. I went up there to check on him. Usually I'd just go to our bedroom, close the door and hope he went back to sleep eventually. He didn't and I'd had great difficulty getting him to sleep the night before. Add that to my lack of sleep and all I could do was cry. There was a point in time where I thought Coralee was up because of noise upstairs but it was Lincoln and I could hear him in our room with the door closed. I finally got to sleep around 6:15 and at 7:00 one of Ken's coworkers from Shanghai called. There was obviously some confusion about when they were supposed to have a conference call and the guy argued with me. I don't normally hang up on people but I was tired and frustrated and I couldn't do anything for him and I wasn't convincing him of anything Ken had told me.
At that point, I got up and got ready so we could attempt to run those last errands before grandparents got here for the dance demonstration which was supposed to be tomorrow. Mr. Party in His Crib woke up around 9:00 and we headed out the door shortly after that... Pirate Booty and sippy in hand. Our first stop was Target and I decided to go to the "new" Target so I could look at Half Price Books, too. We hadn't made it far into Target when we ran into our neighbor, Shannon, which was a nice surprise. We never see anyone we know. Lincoln got fussy at the back of the store and cried a good bit through the baby department all the way to the checkout. There was a huge line and I just hoped that his crying would make them open up another lane... which did happen regardless of his crying. I brought the kids and stuff out to the van, loaded the kids, unloaded the bags and then proceeded to bop myself in the head with the back door of the van. Oh my did that hurt! Sleep deprivation and pain don't go well together and all I could do was cry. I got in the van and cried some more.
Next stop was Ross. I have decided that fighting the battle of keeping the play kitchen clean was making this nesting Momma crazy. So, I was looking for a laundry hamper so it would at least look neater than having stuff everywhere. It's just not practical to expect Lincoln to put that many things back where they belong. We found one for a good price and went to the checkout. The nice guy at the checkout asked if there were any more hampers like that and was just generally pleasant..... then he told me that you couldn't bring the buggies outside. I wanted to laugh at him. I have two kids (one of which has taken off his shoes and isn't reliable walking on his own), I'm 39 weeks pregnant and I have a large, awkward item to carry. We managed just fine but like I said it was funny to me. We're in the outskirts of Cedar Park.... how many of those buggies are walking off?
Next stop was Half Price Books. I was looking for a Disney Guide and for the life of me couldn't find the "travel" section. Once I did, I wasn't thrilled with half price on a 2 year old book that wasn't exactly what I was looking for. At that point, it was time to head home. I decided I was too tired to cook and tried to figure out what I could pick up for lunch. In the end, we had Taco Bell. The kids had cheese roll ups (woohoo for cheaper than the usual quesadillas) and scarfed them down in the van. I stopped and picked up our mail for the week and planned on some time in the back yard once we were home.
Lincoln signed "yes" when I got him out of the carseat because outside is his favorite place to be. That was a first. The kid knows signs and words and just doesn't use them. I settled down in a chair in the back yard with the mail, a Diet Caffeine Free Dr. Pepper and my Cheesy Bean & Rice Burrito and Beef & Potato Burrito. The kids played and occasionally, Lincoln would come over for bites of burrito. After I finished, I went to look and see if we had any tomatoes yet. I'd seen blooms from our bedroom window and was happily surprised to see 1 "big" tomato on a yellow tomato plant and 3 small tomatoes on our cherry tomato. Woohoo! We're off to a much better start than last year.
Next was nap time and boy was I ready. I attempted to help Coralee get toys out of Lauramae's room. She was far from diligent and Lincoln just makes a bigger mess by moving things. Poor little girl, Mommy has been so super cranky about having things picked up lately and we just can't seem to get everything in place. She "picked up" while I read Lincoln books and put him down for nap. Her room was still far from picked up so we worked a little longer and more Mommy grumpiness happened.
I came downstairs, ate the last Reese's Peanut Butter Egg (so much better than even a Reese Cup) and then took my own nap. I woke up after an hour and decided I needed to sleep longer. By 3:30, I woke up again, and could hear Lincoln talking/walking in his crib. I got up, got the kids ready and we headed to Costco to meet Ken.
We had a relatively easy trip. Only one person tried to run over Coralee and me in the store which sadly is a pretty good trip to Costco. The customers there are SO rude in my opinion. I didn't even notice but Ken did. Guess what I was doing when rude lady tried to run over us with her buggy..... I was picking up a big giant cake and putting it into the basket. Hello..... be a LITTLE patient! We bought a ton of food to equip the grandparents for this weekend/next week and then headed for hot dogs for Ken and the kids. I was going to dinner with friends.... which was another bright spot of the day.
Because of all the craziness of grocery shopping, me going to dinner and Ken helping me by cleaning bathrooms and such, we didn't check email until almost 11:00. At that point in time, Ken saw in my email that they had cancelled Coralee's dance demonstration. The school district cancelled all non-ISD activities because of the swine flu. They'll try to reschedule but we already had family coming up today. Ken called his parents and they're waiting to come until Sunday. It was too late to call Mom & Bubba so we sent them a text.
For most of my pregnancy, we had discussed doing my c-section today but then I found out about the demonstration and we rescheduled it for next Tuesday. I've decided that everything about my sweet little girl has already been unexpected. Is this how her little life is going to be? Ever moving my cheese? I never expected to be having kids this close together. THE plan for her arrival got changed and now it was for no reason at all. I will say that I'd rather have a baby on Cinco de Mayo (which according to Wikipedia is a bigger deal in the US than in Mexico) than May Day. At this point, as much as I want to meet her, I'm okay waiting a few more days. Other than not being able to sleep, I feel fine. It's sad that I think I'll sleep better once she's out even with middle of the night feedings. At least then, I can fall asleep in the chair in the living room!
I think there has to be some ultimate lesson in all of this. I'm quite aware that I can't control the events of life. If I didn't learn that from 4 years of infertility, I didn't learn anything from that experience. Still, I don't like it when my plans get changed. I guess God thinks I'm not done learning how little control I have!
